Theme: Christians and Vows

Text: “My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David. His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.” – Psalm 89:34-36.

Comment: God’s immutable capacity to fulfill His word is the driving force behind the faith men repose in Him. He told Isaiah the prophet that His word would not return unto Him void but would accomplish His will. (Isaiah 55:10,11) The sure mercies of David is a divine proclamation about the institution of the Davidic order of succession to the throne in Israel involving only his seeds, including the eternal reign of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ as head and king of God’s glorious kingdom of righteousness and peace. – Genesis 49:10; Psalm 2:6; Matthew 1:6-16; etc. Those who incline their hearts to the commandments of God, in this age, would benefit from the spiritual value of the sure mercies of David (Isaiah 55:3) if they practised the truth by obeying the word of God steadfastly till the end by God’s grace.
