Theme: THE SAVING AND HEALING POWER OF GOD ALMIGHTY

Text: “But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.” – Exodus 7:4,5.

Comment: A leader who trusted in his ability to control people and events due to his power and wealth was the Pharaoh who knew not Joseph. When Moses and Aaron presented him with JEHOVAH’S command that the people of Israel should be allowed to go, he spoke arrogantly and refused to obey. (Exodus 5:1, 2) God Almighty however assured Moses that He would deliver them from bondage to the Egyptians as in the text for today and that He would do so “with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments”. – Exodus 6:5-7.

A number of people today are like the Pharaoh of Egypt by reason of their arrogance and their opposition to God and His work. They trust so much in their power forgetting that a man’s life “is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away”. – James 4:14.

Those who because of their power and wealth oppose righteousness as Pharaoh did would suffer similar fate as the Egyptians in time of old. St. Paul stated, “Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.” – 2 Timothy 3:8, 9.

We should pray God to avoid presumptuous sins so as to be delivered from the antitypical Egypt, this evil world, and not be destroyed as were the Egyptians.  – Psalm 19:12. 13.
