Theme: WATCH AND PRAY

Text: “And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.” – Luke 21:34,35.

Comment: Today’s text conveys stern and timely warning to us to be alert and spiritually cautious so as not to corrupt ourselves in any shape or form.  Since the onset of the last days, the world have been sinking more and more into the abyss of sin.  Men take inordinate pleasure in gratifying their own lusts rather than doing things that are pleasing to God. – 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

In his epistle to the early Christians, Apostle Paul highlighted what would be the state of affairs among men and what the children of God are required to do.  He stated: “But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.”  Continuing, he wrote: “…Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:1-8.
