Text: “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” – James 4:3.
Comment: Asking amiss are requests and supplications to God that are selfish, greedy, meant to elevate ourselves and bring others down, present ourselves as holier than others as seen from the prayer of the hypocrite in Luke 18: 11-13 to wit: “The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.” Also, prayers meant to feed pride and ego are not answered by God. The Holy Bible says: “There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men. Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.” – Job 35:12, 13.
