Theme: ANGER: ITS CAUSES, EFFECTS, CONSEQUENCES AND MANAGEMENT
Text: “And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.” – Number 25:10, 11.
Comment: Another instance of righteous indignation is that recorded in Numbers 25:1-15, when the anger of the Almighty God, Whose Name is Jealous (Exodus 34:14), was kindled against Israel for joining the people of Moab to eat food sacrificed unto idols, and bowing in worship to Baal-peor. Zimri(a Jew) brought in Cozbi(a Medianitish woman) in the sight of Moses and the whole congregation to commit fornication; Phinehas, the grandson of Aaron the Priest, went in after them with a javelin and thrust them through in the act: the anger of God was abated; concerning Phinehas, God instructed Moses saying, “Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace: And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel” (Number 25:12, 13). Youths should emulate the zeal of Phinehas in standing in defense of righteousness, and should not spare evil-doers who trample down God’s laws. – Jude 3.
