Text: “By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.” – Hebrew 11:31.
Comment: For her faith and good works, Rahab stands out as a righteous woman. The story of how she got God’s favour through faith and consequently saved her father’s household from trouble is an object lesson. Though she was originally a woman of easy virtue and shady character, her faith in God catapulted her to limelight for which she was greatly rewarded. After the death of Moses, God commanded Joshua to lead the children of Israel to the land of Canaan. Joshua sent two men to spy out the city of Jericho and they lodged in her house. The news filtered into the ears of the king of Jericho. She hid the two men in the roof of the house. For this, she was spared together with her father’s household when the city was burnt down. This underscores the need for us to justify our faith by works which will redound to our own blessing and salvation in the end. – James 2:14-17.
