Text: “Neither give place to the devil.” “Lest satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” – Ephesians 4:27; 2 Corinthians 2:11.
Comment: As we march on to the “land of life without end”, one major vice with which the devil confuses some people is the over-reliance on their good works or righteousness which subconsciously makes them think they are infallible or even see themselves as having attained. Having a good understanding of this tool employed by the devil, the Psalmist prayed: “Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:13, 14) Paul the apostle provides Christians the antidote he applied in fighting against the menace of thinking too highly of one’s level of holiness, when he declared: “But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:7, 13, 14.
