Text: “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” – 1 Timothy 4:1,16.
Comment: The doctrines of God enshrined in the Holy Bible are pure and beneficial to man as it is written: “My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:” (Deuteronomy 32:2) To avoid being defiled by the teachings of the devil, we are to be grounded in the truth and “endure sound doctrine”, (2 Timothy 4:3; Colossians 1:10,23) and not to be tossed to different directions. In this vein, St. Paul exhorted: “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:” – Ephesians 4:14,15; see also Titus 1:9; Hebrews 13:9; 2 John 10.
