THE SIGNIFICANCE OF A GOOD PERSONAL IDENTITY
Text: “What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows? Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings. It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.” – Proverbs 31: 2-5.
Comment: Immorality and drunkenness are twin evils which combine with harmful drugs to waste a man’s life by installments. The promiscuous and licentious life that many youths live these days had destroyed young men, nobles and kings through subtle slavery, deceit, covetousness, violence, and the spread of deadly diseases, all of which rub one of God’s grace, protection and glory. Lemuel’s mother, a wise and experienced woman, advised the king to be wise. King Solomon, noting that, “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise” (Proverbs 20:1), counseled against being among winebibbers and riotous eaters of flesh, which lead one to drowsiness, poverty and regrets. (Proverbs 5:1-14; 23:20, 21) After the flood, Noah being drunk with wine, exposed himself carelessly, and that brought a very far-reaching consequences on mankind. – Genesis 9:20-27.
