Theme: MAINTAINING GOOD WORKS

Text: “Charge them that are rich in this world… That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate”. – 1 Timothy 6:17,18.

Comment: In a world where tales of economic down turn, hardships, unemployment, mass retrenchment, are becoming an everyday narrative, one who is blessed financially is very fortunate indeed. In relation to the theme, MAINTAINING GOOD WORKS, St. Paul charges here that they should be willing to uplift the fortune of others. To “communicate” is an old English word for reaching out to others through works of charity. To put a smile on the face of one’s neighbour is another way of seeking the favour of God. In Proverbs 19:17, it is written, “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.” See also 1 Timothy 6:19. St. Paul reveals that the Almighty God is well pleased with such sacrifices. – Hebrews 13:16.
