Theme: THE TRIAL OF OUR FAITH

Text: “In all your transactions you must use accurate scales and honest measurements.” – Deuteronomy 25:13, The Living Bible.

Comment: Economic difficulties leading to extreme poverty is one of the strategies the devil uses to test man’s faith in God with the aim to lure him to indulge in evil practices and thereby lose God’s favour. Increasingly, it has become commonplace today to see some in the society invent all kinds of evil devices to cheat their fellow men in the quest to make unjust gains. Is it not true that some traders in the markets illegally adjust scales and measuring containers to cheat customers? Do some gas stations not unjustly adjust their dispensing meters to read above the quantity of fuel being dispensed thereby defrauding unsuspecting customers? Do not some unscrupulous persons produce dangerous fake pharmaceutical drugs and beverages contrary to the admonition in today’s text? Scripture says; “Some men enjoy cheating, but the cake they buy with such ill-gotten gain will turn to gravel in their mouth.” – Proverbs 20:10 – The Living Bible.

We must live honest lives irrespective of the difficult situations we may find ourselves, while prayerfully looking to God Who has promised to provide for His children in time of need. Scripture says; “And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.” – 1Thessalonians 4:11, 12.
