Theme: INTEGRITY

Text: “As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.” – Jeremiah 17:11.

Comment: The quest for quick riches lead many people into cultism, ritual killings, fraud, lie-telling, stealing and other dubious acts. The leading text shows that wealth acquired unlawfully, without diligence and the fear of God, will not profit anyone: in the long run it is misery, pain and death. (Psalm 55:23; Mark 8:36) Wealth gotten from Satanic sources soon fly away. The Preacher warned: “Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.” (Proverbs 13:11) He added: “Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.” (Proverbs 10:2; 23:5) It is God’s desire above all things that His children should “prosper and be in health”. (3 John 2; Isaiah 48:15, 17) He gives freely the “power to get wealth”, but it must be within the bounds of God’s law, order and decency. (Deuteronomy 8:18; Proverbs 10:22). “By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.” – Proverbs 22:4; Psalm 1:1-3; 24:3, 4; Jeremiah 17:7, 8; 1 Timothy 6:6, 7.

Theme: INTEGRITY

Text: “Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing and bewrayeth it not.” – Proverbs 29:24.

Comment: One who has decided to serve God, and be saved, should be careful not to partake in, inherit, or cover up other people’s misdeeds. It is also not his place to lay accusations that are unsubstantiated. Scripture warns that we should not “be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.” (1 Timothy 5:22; Ephesians 5:1-7) If one had witnessed a man’s sin, integrity dictates that he divulges it at the time of inquisition, else he is an accomplice. “And if a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing, and is a witness, whether he hath seen or known of it; if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity.” – Leviticus 5:1; Jeremiah 48:10; Romans 1:32.
