Text: “When thou shalt vow a vow to the LORD thy God, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee”. – Deuteronomy 23:21.
Comment: One of the basic instructions God gave to Moses to regulate vows is as contained in the foregoing text for today. (See Deuteronomy 23:22, 23) But inasmuch as some people have the tendency to delay unnecessarily in fulfilling their vows, the law is that “thou shalt not slack to pay it”. To procrastinate or delay is a violation of the vow; to defer or postpone its payment is another breach of the act; worse still, is the deliberate refusal to abide by the agreement. Anyone who defaults in payment of his vow such as donations, pledges and offerings in cash and kind made to God, is putting himself in great danger of the judgement of God except he repents and turns a new leaf. – Ecclesiastes 5:6.
