Theme: THE EXISTENCE OF GOD

Text:   “For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent…For after that… the world by (its) wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” – 1 Corinthians 1: 19-21.

Comment: It is very wrong to look to scientists, philosophers and other secular scholars for guidance in matters about God. The knowledge they acquire in institutions of higher learning, being worldly, does not lead them to God. Even among those who are called theologians we find more of worldly knowledge than sacred truth in their works!  “The Lord said: “How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? …the pen of the scribes is in vain. The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?” (Jeremiah 8:8, 9)  Any kind of knowledge that is not in line with the truth will eventually fade away with this world. St. Paul asserted that his preaching was not based on worldly knowledge so that the faith of the believers “should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God”. (1 Corinthians 2:4, 5) We should hold fast to the word of God for therein is life. “And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do… For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.” – Deuteronomy 32:46, 47
