Theme: Wilful Idleness And Willing Workers

Text: “Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and never succeed.” – Proverbs 12:24, New Living Translation.

Comment: Being knowledgeable is one of the traits associated with good leaders. Knowledge could be academic or secular. Children of God are expected to cultivate both and be shining examples to the world. See Matthew 5:13. In our quest for knowledge, we should endeavor to apply the fear of God. Scriptures tells us that, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.”- Proverbs 1:7.

However, hard work has gradually become so unpopular in the society. The role model for the youths today are now those who get wealthy by corrupt means and indulgence in shady businesses. Education is no longer attractive. It is common to hear among the youths, “education is a scam.” Scripture says, “The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.” (Proverbs 13:4) Instead of focusing on their education, we see young boys and girls in their teens and early 20s looking for any means to join the Yahoo Yahoo gangs, prostitution, ‘baby factory,’ and other such evil means they see as short cut to success.

Unfortunately, many such misguided youths eventually become victims of untimely deaths or run afoul of the law. God Almighty speaking through Jeremiah the Prophet warned, “As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatchet them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and his end shall be a fool.” – Jeremiah 17:11.
