Theme: THE PURPOSE OF MAN ON EARTH

Text: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” – Ecclesiastes 12:13, 14.

Comment: The whole duty of man, which is God’s purpose for man, is “Fear God, and keep his commandments”. Anything short of this would amount to vain worship which has no reward. However, as the leading text emphasizes, the judgment of God is certain. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” (2 Corinthians 5:10) Therefore, we should “have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and Godly fear”. (Hebrews 12:28; Psalm 4:4; Job 28:28) This is the purpose of God for man. We should also forsake evil and serve God in sincerity as God has no pleasure in the death of the wicked. – Ezekiel 18:30-32; 33:11; Isaiah 55:6, 7.
