Text: “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” – Matthew 7:12.
Comment: One of the incontestable maxims on morality, as taught by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, is the “Golden Rule” otherwise known as the “Royal Law”. (James 2:8) As stated in today’s key text, the Golden Rule simply implies that we should treat people the way we want them to treat us. No one wants to be hated, despised or treated badly. So, what we do not want others to do to us, we should not do to them. This calls for consciousness on the way we act or interact with others as well as tolerance and peaceful co-existence. Most of the problems in the world today are as a result of the reaction of those who felt that they have been wrongfully treated, contrary to norms of Natural Justice, Equity and Good Conscience. We should endeavour to embrace cordial relationship and friendly dispositions amongst ourselves. When this is done, there will be unity, love and concern for one another’s well-being. – Luke 6:31; Acts 24:16; Romans 13:8-10.
