Theme: Merits Of Spiritual Education

Text: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”. – 2 Timothy 2:15.

Comment: It is instructive to learn that one, through studies of the scriptures, could earn himself God’s approval. To attain this noble feat, the erudite apostle could not have been recommending merely flipping through the pages of the Holy Bible as one does with literature novels, newspapers etc. We gain the approval of the Almighty when we read, hear and “keep those things which are written therein…” (Revelation 1:3; Deuteronomy 31:12) The emphasis has always been on animating or putting into action, those things we have learnt.

No one with a good understanding of the impact the word of God has on His children will ever be ashamed of it. Paul the apostle captures it in this wise, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth”. Romans 1:16

To rightly divide the word of truth is in reference to proper harmonization of Bible passages, “precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little” in a way that arouses interest, (Acts 13:42, 48) brings about rebirth, (Acts 2:41, 42) and inspires godliness, (2 Timothy 3:14, 16, 17; Hebrews 4:12) all under the influence of the holy spirit because the words are “spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 2:14.
