Theme: BE YE ALL OF ONE MIND

Text: “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others” – Philippians 2:4

Comment: The text for today is not encouraging busybodies in other men’s matters but rather, it is an encouragement for one to seek the wellbeing or benefit of other people and not to allow the spirit of selfishness to overwhelm us.  In other words, our care and attention should not be personal or be that of our families only but for the generality of one and all.

Christ further showed us the example when he washed the feet of the disciples.  At the end of the exercise he told them: “Ye call me Master and Lord; and ye say well; for so I am.  If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example that ye should do as I have done to you.” (John 13:13-15) Indeed, we are by love to serve one another.  -Galatians 5:13.

Those who are solely concerned with their personal pleasures are not far from being greedy and selfish.  They take advantage of opportunities without regard to the consequences of their actions.  Some can even go to the extent of killing to further their interests.  It should not be found among us. Rather we should have the same mind that was in Christ Jesus. Christ was humble, compassionate, loving and in fact all embodiment of care for humanity which was the reason he died for us.   – Philippians 2:5-11.
