Theme: HOPE THOU IN GOD

Text: “For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.” – Romans 8:24, 25.

Comment: Hope, which means to desire something with expectation of fulfillment, is one of the essential or fundamental elements of the Christian faith (1 Corinthians 13:13) It has the undertone of faith (believing in God) and patience (waiting on God), hence St Paul defined faith as “…the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) As true worshippers of God, we hope in the sure promises of God, the ultimate of which is salvation or eternal life which will be obtained in God’s Kingdom fully established. In this vein, St Paul said: “But let us who are of the day, be sober putting on the breast plate of faith and love; and for an helmet the hope of salvation. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:8, 9. See also 1 John 2:25; Psalm 149:4; Luke 18:28-30; etc.
