Text: “And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.” – 2 Kings 9:35
Comment: The inglorious end of Jezebel, wife of King Ahab is one that has object lessons for God’s worshippers, especially the female folk. She exercised great authority over her husband, committed idolatry or spiritual fornication by serving idols, persecuted Elijah the prophet, masterminded the killing of Naboth, a worshipper of God, etc. (1 Kings 21:1-26) The pronouncement of Elijah the prophet that, “The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel” fulfilled to the letter on her in the days of Jehu when she was thrown down from the palace building. On hitting the ground, her body dismembered, while her blood splashed on the walls which dogs came and licked. This was the unfortunate end of a woman given to wickedness and atrocities. (2 Kings 9:30-35) This should serve as a lesson to us. – Romans 15:4
