Text: “The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.” – 1 Corinthians 16:19.
Comment: Aquila was a Jew, born in Pontus but resident in Italy with his wife Priscilla until Claudius, the emperor of Rome decreed that all Jews should leave Rome. (Acts 18:2) Aquila and Priscilla returned and dwelt in Corinth where St. Paul met them. As they had the same occupation as Saint Paul, being tentmakers, they were charitable enough to accommodate St. Paul. (Acts 18:3) Aquila and Priscilla accompanied St. Paul in his missionary travel as far as Ephesus. (Acts 18:18,19) They used their home for the worship of God as stated in the text for today where St. Paul was sending Christian felicitation. It was in their home that they expounded the scriptures to Apollos an eloquent preacher of the gospel. Christian couples should emulate the godly character of Aquila and Priscilla who saw themselves as fellow companions in the work of God.
