Theme: AVENGE NOT YOURSELVES

Text: “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.” – Acts 17:30, 31.

Comment: Administering vengeance as recompense for sins, is God Almighty’s sole prerogative. And it is His Battle Axe and Field Marshal, Jesus Christ that he has promised to send to accomplish this task. (Jeremiah 51:20; John 5:22). Concerning this, Apostle Paul stated, “Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God…” – 2 Thessalonians 1:6-9.

Children of God who suffer oppression or persecution should therefore be comforted, in that their God will certainly visit His vengeance on those who persecute them. We should not lean on our own understanding by seeking out vengeance on our oppressors, let us learn to wait on the LORD. Scripture says, “Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee”. – Proverbs 20:22.

Anyone who takes the law into his or her own hands, has fallen short of the standards of God and has placed himself or herself in spiritual danger, as it is written, “The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly…” – Zephaniah 1:14-18.
