Text: “Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.” – Matthew 15:15-20.
Comment: People’s beliefs and values shape their attitude and character and eventually, what they make of their lives. In the words of King Solomon as a man “…thinketh in his heart so is he…” (Proverbs 23:7) It was because of their evil disposition that Christ said the unbelieving Jews are not children of Abraham but of the devil. (John 8:44) It is important therefore to imbibe right teachings and to walk according to them in that misleading thoughts darken one’s way in life. Those who are of God must oppose and resist the false philosophies being propagated by the agents of the devil. – Jude 3; Ephesians 5:11.
How does one know which thoughts and teachings to follow? It is the ones that are in line with the will of God as stated in the Holy Bible. Apostle John stated, “Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.” (2 John 9) One should be spiritually minded, courageous and be prayerful so as to be directed by God. Scripture says, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” – Joshua 1:8.
