Theme: LORD, WHO SHALL ABIDE IN THY TABERNACLES?

Text: “Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.” – Amos 5:15.

Comment: Even if unintended, we make ourselves partakers of the actions of evildoers when we are sympathetic towards their cause, taking delight in their deeds or actively emulating them, either in the open or in secret. (Romans 1:32; 8:5) Believers worth their calling, identify sin and call it by its rightful name without equivocation. There are some who strengthen the hands of the wicked instead of pointing out their errors to them by way of reproof or rebuke, (1 Timothy 5:20) or outrightly shunning them in order to make them realize their spiritual commitment. In the words of Isaiah the prophet, they “call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!” (Isaiah 5:20,23) In addition to qualities to be exhibited by those who should abide in God’s Mountain, King David adds: “In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD.” – Psalm 15:4; Proverbs 8:13.
