One significant event in ancient times that has been recorded to serve as a guide and warning to those who have undertaken to serve God Almighty is the story of Lot’s wife. Who was she? What things did she do that brought her into the purview of Christ’s teachings? What lessons are there to learn from this woman whose character has forever acquired the badge of infamy? The answers to these and more will be delved into in this series, to amplify the terse admonition of the greatest Teacher of all times, asking us to REMEMBER LOT’S WIFE.
Text: “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.” – Matthew 10:37, 38.
Comment: Lie-telling is a behaviour disorder which belongs to the Conduct Disorder (CD) type. To some persons, lie-telling is second nature as they have been engaged in it from childhood to the extent that they no longer have prick of conscience when doing it. It is a very bad behaviour as it is directly linked with Satan the Devil, the father of lies. (John 8:44) The tragic end of Ananias and Sapphira should drive spiritual fear into those who engage in lie-telling to desist from the act. (Acts 5:1-11; Ephesians 4:25) Rewards should be given to those who are truthful to encourage honesty while punishment should be meted out to serve as deterrent to lie-telling. – Proverbs 6:16-17; Proverbs 12:19, 22; Matthew 5:37; Psalm 15:1-2.
