Theme: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF A GOOD PERSONAL IDENTITY
Text: “Do not eat the bread of a miser, Nor desire his delicacies: For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, But his heart is not with you. The morsel you have eaten, you will vomit up, And waste your pleasant words.” – Proverbs 23:6-8. (New King James Version)
Comment: Man’s identity is also influenced by his thoughts. The derogatory term ‘MISER’ is earned by one’s actions if he is uncharitable to himself and others. Misers neither reflect the glory of God nor glorify God with their substance, and they make others chide God for their lives of misery. A name sticks out as identity if one acts out the meaning of such name. About her husband, Abigail told David, “Please, let not my lord regard this scoundrel Nabal. For as his name is, so is he: Nabal is his name, and folly is with him!” Nabal was a miserly, inconsiderate man, showing ingratitude for all of David’s care over his flocks. His rough words cost him his life. (1 Samuel 25:25, 39-42) Jesus Christ chided the Laodicean Christians for priding themselves in their wealth, not knowing that they were spiritually “wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked”; he counseled them to be spiritually rich, and be clothed with righteousness.” – Revelations 3:17-19.
