Text: “Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. This wisdom descended not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.” – James 3:13, 15.
Comment: James the apostle and brother of our Lord Jesus Christ speaks of wisdom that is self-seeking and describes it as sensual, earthly, arrogant and demonic – a meaningless type of wisdom. It leads to frustration, confusion and emptiness. In recent times in Nigeria, we have had cases of building collapse. One of the reasons alluded to this is the rising cost of building materials. The futility of wisdom is displayed by greedy property owners. Instead of using materials meant for building a bungalow to erect a bungalow, they use these materials for a two or more-storey building. Mid-way in the construction of the building or after completion, the building collapses with a lot of casualties recorded. This is wisdom with lack of purpose, bringing more harm than good. Money is lost, time is wasted and lives are lost and reputation is damaged. (Romans 1:21, 22; Proverbs 24:27). No doubt, in applying wisdom, there is need to plan well before executing a plan.
