Theme: REMEMBER LOT’S WIFE
Text: “And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 2 Thessalonians 1:7, 8.
Comment: As destruction befell Sodom and Gomorrah, similar fate awaits our world, the difference being that, while the fire then was literal, the “flaming fire” with which this wicked world would be brought to an end is symbolic of the torment and eternal annihilation of all evildoers as well as the current system under the wicked overlordship of the devil. Zephaniah designates it the fire of God’s jealousy. (Zephaniah 1:18; Psalm 37:1, 2, 9, 10, 22; 2 Peter 3:6, 7) The “sore judgments” of God upon evildoers is a reminder for the righteous that God’s day of reckoning is both real and imminent. Though the exact “day and hour knoweth no man”, (Matthew 24:36) it prompts them to continue in the practice of God’s righteousness, knowing that it “tendeth to life”. (Proverbs 11:19) Let us therefore emulate the faith, consistency, and obedience of Lot and his two daughters so as to inherit life at the end, by the grace of God.
