Theme: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF A GOOD PERSONAL IDENTITY

Text: “Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment. Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.” – Ecclesiastes 11:9, 10.

Comment: The youthful age is a period of achievements and diligence, laying down treasure for “the days of darkness”. (Ecclesiastes 11:8) It is also a period when people are prone to reckless lifestyle, taking risks, schemes that try their zest, pushing limits and needless exploits, squandering resources on licentiousness, surfeiting and fleshly pleasures, lured by peer groups and acquaintances under Satan’s influence, without recourse to “consequence”. Mistakes of youths hunt one and tarnish their image or identity later in life. (Job 20:1-11) It is good for a man to take up Christ’s yoke at youth, and maintain the good name. (Lamentations 3:27) “Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.” (Ecclesiastes 10:1) God blesses humble and God-fearing youths with riches, honour and long life, like Job was blessed with great wealth and excellency. –  Proverbs 22:4; Job 29: 4, 7-25.
