Theme: SPIRITUAL MINDEDNESS, KEY TO HEALTHY LIVING

Text: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” – Colossians 3:16.

Comment: The gift of music was given to man to enable him sing in praise of God Almighty thereby fulfilling the duty for which he was created.  (Isaiah 43:7,21) Songs help to publish the truth and enables the word to be more firmly established in one’s memory. God takes pleasure in His people singing praises to Him and draws His attention to them.  Elisha the prophet did get inspiration sometimes when he listened to a minstrel, (a flute-player or a player on a stringed instrument)  (2 Kings 3:15) What is more, when Paul and Silas were imprisoned they sang praises to God who miraculously delivered them by His grace. The jailer himself and his house as a result of this wonderful deliverance were converted to the Christian faith.  – Acts 16: 25-40.

For music to achieve the purpose of uplifting the soul, then the wordings should be meaningful and be based on the promises of God as stated in the Holy Bible. When a song is rendered with understanding, with faith and as a prayer, it does wonderful things for the believer.  It relieves one of physical stress, from pain and anguish and makes him to forget his worries.  The Bible says  we should remove sorrow from our hearts, and that “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” – Proverbs 17:22; Ecclesiastes 11:10.
