Theme: EVIL COMMUNICATION

Text: “These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running into mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies and He that soweth discord among brethren.” – Proverbs 6:16-19.

Comment: As we go about our godly endeavours through the day, it is just impossible to choose the nature and character of people we may come across, but the Holy Scriptures, being a guide for God’s children and a lamp to their feet, teaches us how to react to the ungodly tendencies of evildoers. As new creatures in Christ, we are bound to hate all that God hates, not minding whosoever is involved.

Out of sheer irresponsibility, some take it upon themselves to smear the reputation of others, not necessarily because the tales they peddle are true, but because of the pleasure they derive in so doing, forgetting that putting others down does not make us any better than them. The Almighty Father who sees the secret of all men, from our actions, to utterances, down to the content of our hearts and would reward everyone according to their works, “with every secret things, whether it be good or whether it be evil”. – Ecclesiastes12:14.

The moral conveyed in Proverbs 6:16-19 is that anyone indulging in evil by extension, makes himself an abomination before God. It is in the habit of rumour mongers to evade direct confrontation with their victims in that when asked, “can you repeat these same words in front of him?” they show reluctance or outright refusal. This speaks volumes of the falsehood of their report and wickedness of their intents.

May God’s word continually be our help as we navigate through Satan’s world.
