Theme: Casting All Our Burden On The Lord

Text: “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread”. – Psalm 37:25.

Comment: The economic situation in the world has been a source of worry and anxiety globally. There is large scale unemployment for the teeming youths as there are no job placements for the large number of graduates churned out of the tertiary institutions every year. Some having jobs are not being owed for months. There are retrenchments, job losses, collapse of businesses, etc. Some are forced to take up jobs they are not happy doing just to make ends meet or just to put food on their tables All these have brought no small worry, anxieties and emotional pain to many homes. At the national and international level, there is recession, global economic meltdown/financial meltdown etc. which has led to countries borrowing huge loans that they are still struggling to pay back thereby impoverishing their citizens. See Isaiah 24:2.

God has never abandoned His people in times of economic hardship. When there was famine (food scarcity) in the land of Israel, God uses a bird and later the widow of Zarephath to provide food to sustain Elijah the Prophet. (1Kings 17:1-16) The Psalmist assures that God will provide to sustain the righteous in times of food scarcity when he said: “Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine”. Psalm 33:18-19.
