Theme: THE DANGER OF TALE BEARING AND RASH JUDGMENT

INTRODUCTION

Talebearing which is also called taletelling in modern English is defined by the Collins English Dictionary as the act of telling stories, or gossiping in an indiscreet manner. While rash judgement means to implicitly assume, as true without sufficient foundation, information about a person, an organization, or what we hear about them.

A slanderer like a talebearer, is one who utters false or malicious statement, tale or report designed to injure the reputation of another person. In Biblical terms a slanderer is also a false accuser. Both talebearers and slanderers are dangerous to the society and the Church. God is not happy with those who engage in these vices. Such ones should repent and turn from their evil ways so as to attract Gods mercies and forgiveness by His grace. – Isaiah 55:6, 7.

Text: “A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.” – Proverbs 16:28.

Comment: Persons who derive joy in gossiping and talebearing are architects of confusion in the Church, workplace, family, etc. By their slander and lie telling they destroy their fellow man and make them look very bad in the eyes of others. Best of friends have been separated due to talebearing, and those who receive this information about their friends, colleagues, Church members and neighbours should endeavour to fact-check such things told them so that they too will not be victims of rash judgement, thereby making grave mistakes in their decisions concerning what they are told about their friends, neighbours, or colleagues. The Bible states, “Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?” – John 7:51.
