Theme: BE YE DOERS OF THE WORD

Text: “Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”  – Deuteronomy 4:6.

Comment:  When people are given to keeping the laws of God, their standard of morality will be far higher than that of others and relative peace, progress and happiness will come to them as a matter of course. God inspired Solomon the prophet to declare: “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34)  Every country that wants to enjoy a respectable position in the comity of nations must be disposed to orderly and decent behaviour based on the knowledge of God.  “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” (Psalm 33:12) It was Thomas Jefferson, a former American president, who, referring to the Holy Bible, declared: “I have always said and always will say that the studious perusal of the Sacred Volume will make us better citizens, better fathers, and better husbands.”  By faithful adherence to the truth, our peculiarity as Christians would become manifest. St. Paul in his letter to Titus stated: “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” – Titus 2:11-14.
