Theme: SOME PARABLES OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST
Text: “Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.” – Matthew 5:15.
Comment: Christianity is a way of life, not a claim! During His famous Sermon on the Mount, our Saviour and Master outlined nine principles of Christian living associated with the call of God. (Matthew 5:3-12) Consolidating on them, he told His listeners that imbibing these principles would in turn make them stand out as “the salt of the earth”. In a world hopelessly decaying through unrighteousness, Christ’s followers are duty bound to revive these age-long values in order to redirect the people of the world back to God. St. Peter states: “Having your conversation (conduct) honest among the Gentiles: that … they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.” – 1 Peter 2:12; 3:1, 2.
As followers of Christ, we lend support to the evils plaguing our world when we refuse to insist at all times on what is right. While evil men and seducers wax worse and worse, Christians on their part should be a beacon of hope by flying the banner of truth and righteousness through their godly conduct. – Isaiah 60:1; Luke 12:35.
“Bushel” as used in today’s text is in reference to actions by which some people conceal the truth which they know whereas they ought to let confess their faith before men. We should demonstrate our Christianity through the practice of genuine love (John 13:34,35) and active proclamation of the truth in any way we can. – Psalm 68:11; Matthew 10:32,33; Revelation 22:17.
