Theme: SOME PARABLES OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST

Text: “Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.” – Luke 14:16-20.

Comment: Though all mankind were born in sin, God Almighty still made a way of salvation for them by sending His servants to make known to them their errors and to teach them how to serve Him. But many of the natural Jews did not respond to the invitation to serve God in truth.  They made light of the call, preferring to continue doing things their own way, to pursue their personal interests and giving excuses for abandoning the Lord’s work.

In these last days the gospel of Jesus Christ God is being preached round the world so that people of goodwill would be freed from the power of darkness and come to the light. (Matthew 24: 14; Acts 1:8) However, while some have and are heeding the call with zest, others who acknowledge the truth are being bogged down by worldly concerns, failing to realize that the matter of salvation is so important that it should always take precedence over all other considerations.  No one should delay in taking up the challenge of living the new life in Christ. “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.” – Isaiah 55:6, 7.
