Theme: HOPE THOU IN GOD

Text: “Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man. Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.” – Psalm 60:11, 12.

Comment: In their travails, some look up to persons for help as a result of their power, fame, influence and affluence in the world. In this regard, they rely on such persons to grant them succour or relief in time of difficulty. Jeremiah the prophet spoke of the spiritually sorry-state of persons who hope in man when he declared: “Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD…” (Jeremiah 17:5, 6) In a similar vein, to put one’s hope in worldly organisations or secret cults would not profit anyone. “Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.” (Jeremiah 3:23) Let us therefore, put our hope and trust in God Almighty as He alone can save and bless us by His grace. – Isaiah 45:22; Jeremiah 17:7, 8.
