Theme: REPENTANCE

Text: “Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word. It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.” – Psalm 119:67,71.

Comment: The final stage of repentance is the action stage or the Do stage. This is the time when one demonstrates one’s sincerity and promise to God not to do it again. This is the time to say NO; the time to act on one’s decision when faced with the temptation to commit the same sinful act. The Scriptures say: “…Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7). “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.” (Proverbs 28:13, 14) And it is very important to have at the back of our minds that the temptation to relapse will come many times during the early stage of acting out one’s repentance. This is a device of satan to prevent repentance, and worshippers of God should not fall for it. All one needs to do is to continually say No until one eventually gains victory over the sinful act by God’s grace. (James 1:12, 2-4). Also, it is crucial to intensify prayers to God for empowerment to resist and overcome sin. – Romans 12:12; 8:13.
