Theme: REPENTANCE

Text: “For ye know how that afterwards, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.” – Hebrews 12:17.

Comment: The audacity to sin is sadly now very widespread amongst Christians today. We find some who know the law of God giving many excuses for their sins. And so, fornicators, adulterers, thieves, liars, kidnappers, illicit drug users, alcohol abusers, etc; put up one or more of the following excuses: ‘God would understand’, ‘others are doing it’, ‘I am young and would like to enjoy myself now’, ‘I will repent later’ etc. As men and women, boys and girls defiantly gather more audacity to sin, they should remember and take note of the following: i) God and Christ will inflict greater punishment on those who know their laws and deliberately break them. “You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.” (Amos 3:2) “And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.” (Luke 12:47, 48) ii) Willful sin has grave consequences and one of such is that there may be no room for forgiveness, as the Bible makes us to understand. – Hebrews 10:26-29,31; 6:4-6; Matthew 12:30,31.
