Theme: THE VOICE OF CONSCIENCE

Text: “That this shall be no grief unto thee, nor offence of heart unto my lord, either that thou hast shed blood causeless, or that my lord hath avenged himself: but when the LORD shall have dealt well with my lord, then remember thine handmaid.” – 1 Samuel 25:31.

Comment: Today’s quote plays out vividly the Biblical record of the incident between David, Nabal and Abigail when David was set to destroy the household of Nabal because of the ill-treatment meted to him (David) and his servants by an ungrateful Nabal. Abigail the wife of Nabal was a woman of good understanding in contrast to her husband. On getting to know the indiscretion of her husband to David, she interceded and appealed to David’s conscience, by highlighting the negative consequence of bloodshed and vengeance. (1 Samuel 25:14-31) David being a God-fearing man, received in good faith Abigail’s intervention and allowed his conscience to guide him to take her advice thereby making the right decision. The account states that David commended Abigail for her wisdom. (1 Samuel 25:32, 33) God’s people should be open to wise counsel and have a clear conscience always. – Psalm 1:1-3.
