Theme: AWAKE TO RIGHTEOUSNESS AND SIN NOT
Text: “Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.” – Proverbs 13:11.
Comment: Bible lessons, coupled with benefits of experience from everyday living have shown that due diligence and hard work may come with their attendant strain by way of physical strength, time, resources, etc, but in the long run, God helping, the result brings satisfaction, joy, fulfillment, etc.
It is true that the world is constantly devaluing itself in both spiritual and moral values, many are thrilled by any idea that allows them to work less and earn more and that the age-long traditional concept of “dignity in labour” is being eroded by the “get rich or die trying” syndrome.
But by precept and example, CHRIST taught us the profound gain in good works coupled with patience, persistence and like virtues. For instance, He was able to resist Satan’s recommendations for easy access to food after fasting for 40 days and 40 nights, for fame/vainglory and his suggestion to acquire wealth and honour. He brilliantly stood His ground using Bible principles instead, such as contained in Deuteronomy 8:3.
As a confirmation to the second aspect of today’s text, by the grace of God, all promises made by Satan the devil are far inferior to the glory, blessings, honour, majesty and other reward with which the author of salvation (JESUS CHRIST) has been beautified by the Almighty God by His grace. – Psalm 2:6; Philippians 2:9-11; Hebrews 1:4, etc.
May God grant His sheep the strength to resist the allurement of the ungodly by not consenting to them so as to inherit far more blessings He has prepared for us by His grace. – 1 Corinthians 2:9.
