Theme: THE WILL OF GOD

Text: “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me” – Exodus 20:4,5.

Comment: Worshipping or bowing to images has become a norm and practice in some religious cycles professing the Christian faith. They bow to supposed images of Jesus Christ, the apostles and even Mary the mother of Jesus. They see these images as intermediaries for prayers to God. This is against the will of God and abominable. It is to God that all knees should bow. (Isaiah 45:23). Jesus Christ is the only Mediator between God and men. (1 Tim 2:5). In John 14:13 Christ said: “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” Mary the mother of Jesus Christ, is dead and buried and remains unconscious in the grave until the day of resurrection. (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6,10). She had and has no spiritual powers. In Deuteronomy 4:23,24, Moses warned the people of God strongly against this. He said: “Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of anything, which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee. For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.” Some pass this idolatrous practice down their generations thereby attracting the punishment of God down the line as expressed in the text under reference, “visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me”.
