Theme: AVENGE NOT YOURSELVES

Text: “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;” – Colossians 3:12.

Comment: Apostle Paul was enjoining the Colossian Christians in his days to put off the old man and his deeds which are corrupt after the deceitful lust and to put on the new man which is renewed in knowledge, after the image of him that created him. And that by virtue of the sacrificial work of our Saviour Jesus Christ, that the middle wall of partition between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, bond and free have now been broken. – Colossians 3:9-11; Ephesians 4:22-24.

Continuing, he then advised, that as those who have been given the grace to be on God’s chosen side of favour, we should put on qualities to make our calling and election sure. – Colossians 3:12; 2 Peter 1:10.

In verses 13 and 14 of the text under reference (Colossians 3:13-14), Apostles Paul amongst other things then said, that we must forbear one another and forgive one another. That if any has a quarrel against another, as Christ forgave us, we should also do likewise. And that above all, we should put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

The grace to have been called of God into His Kingdom Organisation is one we must not take lightly. We all must understand, that been called into the way of truth is not enough to ensure salvation, we must go the extra mile of believing on the Lord Jesus Christ by putting into practice his exemplary qualities, including forgiveness. – Acts 17:30,31; John 13:15; 1 Peter 2:21-24.
