Theme: WATCH AND PRAY

Text: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” – Joshua 1:8.

Comment: Genuine success comes from being controlled by God.  When we are not certain of what to do, obedience to what God has revealed in the Scriptures is the only sure step to take.  We should resolve to set aside time each day to read and think about God’s word.  Reminding ourselves of God’s word day and night and then endeavouring to obey them assures one of true prosperity by His grace.  “If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.” – Job 36:11.

The level of lawlessness in the world today is so high that a lot of people believe that prosperity and success comes only from power, influential personal contacts, and a relentless desire to get ahead.  But the recipe for gaining prosperity that God taught Joshua the Prophet, as in the text for today, is that good success will come from being strong and courageous because we need to be bold to speak the truth, to practice it and to defend it, “…in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world” (Philippians 2:15).  We should constantly read and study the Holy Bible and obediently practise it.  These requirements will enable one to make progress both spiritually and materially by God’s grace.
