Text: “I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: …LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.” – Psalm 39:1, 4.
Comment: We use our tongue to praise the Most High God. (Psalm 35:28; 119:172) But to use it otherwise and not being mindful, there lies sin and its consequences, because “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” (Proverbs 18:21) King Solomon added: “In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise. The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth…” (Proverbs 10:19-21; 15:2,4) We should be cautious of the things we say, where we utter them, and how we speak. St. Peter exhorts: “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.” – 1 Peter 3:10, 11.
