Theme:THE FUTILITY OF WORLDLY WISDOM

Text: “He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.” – Job 5:13.

Comment: Apostle Paul made reference to this statement of Job in 1 Corinthians 3:19 when he said; “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God, For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.” We can see this in Ahithophel, King David’s counsellor and friend who later joined company with Absalom, his son to betray David. Ahithophel and Judas Iscariot were crafty in their relationship with their masters, King David and Jesus Christ respectively. Both were trusted friends but betrayed their friends. (2 Samuel 15:31; Matthew 26:14-16). Both conspired with the enemy to plot their kings’ death, (2 Samuel 17:1-4; Luke 22:2-6) and they both hanged themselves. (2 Samuel 17:23; Matthew 27:5). It was Isaiah the Prophet who stated; “Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.” – Isaiah 29:14; 1 Corinthians 1:19.
