Theme: ANGER: ITS CAUSES, EFFECTS, CONSEQUENCES AND MANAGEMENT
Text: “But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire” – Matthew 5:22.
Comment: Swear words and curses used at the height of anger can rob one of God’s grace and salvation: for the Scripture states that “Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and … no murderer hath eternal life ….” (1 John 3:15). Jesus Christ, in the text for today added, “Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift” (Matthew 5:23, 24). The import of this commandment is that we should not harbor wrathful grudges against anyone; a worshipper of God should “have always a conscience void of offence toward God and toward men” (Acts 24:16). Christ gave the standard for dispute resolution in Matthew 18:18-20.
