Theme: INTEGRITY

The true value of a man is not his financial standing, physical looks, strength or might; but the content of his character, refined by God’s Laws.  Integrity, as defined by the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary means, “the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles”. It also means uprightness of character – the state of being honest, just, honourable and sincere. A man of integrity considers deeply his intensions, actions, possible impact on other people, before embarking on them; he worries about what image his actions will portray of him; he is God-fearing, honest, and loved by many in society. We shall, in the coming weeks look at INTEGRITY in the light of the Holy Scriptures, by God’s grace.

Text: “So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.” – James 2:12.

Comment: Whatever the achievements of anyone – in scholarship, position or material wealth – such one can never command the respect of decent people in society if he has no integrity. According to the Scriptures, Integrity is a safe guide to those who have it as a man of integrity is regarded as a man of noble character and an excellent spirit. One of the ingredients of integrity, as stated in the key text for today, is that people should be held accountable for what they say. The text admonishes that we should speak and do the right things. We should not be like the Scribes and Pharisees who “sit in Moses’ seat: All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.” (Matthew 23:2, 3; Romans 2:13) There is abundant blessings for those who speak and keep the laws of God as enshrined in the Holy Bible. – James 1:25; Romans 2:1-6; 20-24.
