Theme: Christians and Vows

Text: “But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work”.  – John 4:32-34.

Comment: In the text for today, Jesus Christ was articulating his unbending resolve to do the will of his Father, conclude the redemptive work that brought him to the world by enduring the trials, tribulations and persecutions from the devil. To the unbelieving Jews, he said: “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” (John 9:4) This is one of the clearest statements of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, expressing his strong desire to fulfil his mission here on earth. (Isaiah 6:8) Worshippers of God are encouraged to make vows to God and fulfil them at the appropriate time.
